Norbain supplies security equipment for District Land Registry Office

November '99 Surveillance

Norbain SD, the UK's largest distributor of CCTV equipment, has supplied a range of CCTV products to FAB Security Systems for installation at the District Land Registry for Wales in Swansea.

Using high performance equipment, the tender was won as a result of the specification provided by FAB and the fact that the company has successfully undertaken intruder alarm and fire detection system design and installation in the past for the customer, so is well known for its quality service.

The external CCTV system, which has only recently been installed, is used to monitor and protect the 400 staff who work there, as well as the public who regularly visit. It features seven Vista VPCM 1/2" CCD day/night cameras which, with their IR sensitive design, gives them the ability to automatically switch from colour to monochrome in low light conditions. This makes the VPCM suitable for use in applications where, traditionally, only monochrome cameras could be used. As such, it represents a highly convenient and cost-effective solution to use two separate cameras instead of being restricted to a monochrome camera. The cameras 'see' in the dark through the use of Derwent infrared lighting.

The VPCM cameras have been fitted with 15:1 motorised Vista zoom lenses and auto iris varifocal lenses. They are housed in IP65 weatherproof housings some of which have wiper units. Five of the cameras are mounted in Dennard external pan and tilts to provide greater system operation flexibility.

Images from the cameras installed around the perimeter of the district land registry offices are processed using a Vista Generation 3 Ultra 10-way colour multiplexer with remote keyboard. The Generation 3 Ultra multiplexer features triplex functioning, allowing three multiplexing functions to be performed at the same time: view live images in multiscreen format; record to a VCR; and view playback images in multiscreen. This triplex function provides a level of flexibility never before seen in a multiplexer. In addition, the Generation 3 Ultra also comes with panic button recording, conditional live screens giving fast updates, Autotest self-learn monitor sequence, high resolution record and playback and autolist facility to set up and customise sequences for individual user settings.

The images from the multiplexers are viewed on two colour monitors, one a high resolution metal cased Vista PVD 14" monitor, the other a 17" JVC monitor.

The camera images are recorded using a Vista S-VHS time lapse VCR which is a fully featured 480 h VCR providing high resolution recording.
