Gray Security chooses Digicore fleet management and its C-Track vehicle tracking system

November '99 Asset Management, Transport (Industry)

Digicore Holdings is a listed company on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, comprising the following companies: Digicore International, Digicore Technology and Digicore Fleet Management. The objective of Digicore Fleet Management is to provide the industry with high quality fleet management, products and service. The business has extended to the supply and service of C-Track fleet management and vehicle tracking system Co-Driver vehicle monitoring systems, Beka-max central lubrication systems, Protech engine management systems, tachographs and wide range of automotive gauges.

In South Africa, both the Co-Driver vehicle monitoring system and C-Track vehicle tracking systems continue to enjoy significant success. According to Digicore's group Marketing Director Bruce Richards, about 8000 C-Track units are in operation in the market, while Co-Driver units runs to over 30 000. C-Track has become the most successful addition to the product range and has also captured close to 70% of the very competitive South African market for tracking based fleet management systems.

Gray Security SA, after investigating the feasibility of installing satellite tracking into its vehicles to enhance the service levels for customers, has concluded a R2 million order with Digicore Fleet Management (Cape Town). These units are installed nationally by the 18- branch network owned by Digicore Fleet Management.

Gray Security Services SA will improve its customer service by virtue of the fact that they will know the true position and time of any of the vehicles, enabling more efficient despatch control which also improves the response time, vital for emergencies.

The C-Track GPS (global positioning system) will also assist drivers to receive back-up response from the closest back-up vehicle when needed. With the ongoing research and development taking place there are other future benefits which will result from this development.

Digicore Fleet Management with over 40 000 units installed internationally, leads the way in fleet technology from fork lifts to 18 wheelers, from harbour cranes to delivery bikes. Digicore Fleet Management offers total fleet management solutions across the board. The proven reliability of products such as C-Track and Co-Driver, its own fleet of over 150 mobile workshops nationwide, and ongoing R&D programmess ensure that whatever your fleet management requirements, Digicore Fleet Management has the information and communication tools to put you in control.

The C-TRACK system consists of a microprocessor that is installed in a vehicle and utilises the accurate GPS system to determine the vehicle position. C-TRACK allows for all vehicle status changes or violations of preset parameters to be recorded on board the vehicle and also be transmitted to a base station computer at the operator's office or control centre. This information transmission is done utilising the short message system (SMS) of the ever-increasing GSM networks in the relative countries around the world. This information is received and decoded by the unique and advanced C-TRACK software.

The fleet operator is then able to see, on different levels of maps, where and in what status are his vehicles. Preferred and no-go areas can be set by the operator for each of his vehicles. The maximum speed allowed, maximum engine revs, braking force and maximum idle time can also be set for the vehicles. The parameter settings are all done from the base station, thereby preventing any driver interference. The frequency at which the information is transmitted to the base station is also determined and programmed by the operator, making C-TRACK a very cost-effective fleet management system. This automatic vehicle update will, however, be interrupted in case of a parameter violation that the operator has selected, to report as it occurs.

To know where the vehicles are and what they are doing is critically important to operate the fleet effectively and cost efficiently. C-TRACK can therefore be regarded as the operator's eyes and ears in his vehicles when they are away on the roads doing their business, which is earning the owner money.
