Five vehicle tracking and recovery companies have been awarded the prestigious approval rating by the Vehicle Security Association of South Africa (VESA), an independent organisation that acts as a watchdog for vehicle owners.
A sixth company, Bandit Vehicle Security Systems, has been granted provisional approval.
The five companies to have been granted full approval are Capital Air, Matrix Vehicle Tracking, Netstar,Tracker Network and datatrak. A measure of these companies' excellence can be gauged from comments made at the award ceremony by Conroy Oosthuyzen, Managing Director of VESA, to the effect that there are about 120 companies in South Africa engaged in the tracking and recovery and fleet management fields.
Of these, an estimated 30 companies are capable of doing a good job and of those only nine companies to date have met all the required standards and specifications laid down by VESA, Oosthuyzen added.
VESA approved companies have a credible track record, have effective products and a capable infrastructure, manages data in a secure and responsible manner, are Y2K compatible and provide excellent customer service.
Oosthuyzen pointed out that Bandit had recently completed its first year of operations, had a top class infrastructure in place, a proven track record but was still building its subscriber base to the 3000 clients required.
On the fleet management side the companies that were honoured by VESA are Capital Air, Digicore Technology, Global Telematics, and Matrix Vehicle Tracking. A fifth company, datatrak, earned its stripes this year.
