Orchid launches premium solution insurance package in South Africa

November '99 Asset Management

Global Telematics SA, the South African division of the market leader in Telematics system technology, including the Orchid vehicle, location, tracking, navigation and security system, is now offering its South African subscriber base a combined Telematics and insurance package.

After realising the positive contribution that Orchid can make to significantly reducing customers insurance premiums, Orchid is launching its Orchid Premium Solution package in South Africa, an all exclusive package combining the Orchid system installation with comprehensive fleet insurance (with no excess for theft or hijack), together with armed recovery and finance.

Re-assessing premiums

Global Telematics SA has gone into partnership with Promark Insurance who are actual risk managers rather that just brokers. This has enabled Global Telematics to provide customers with a fully evaluated loss history and to re-assess the premium based on what would probably have happened if an Orchid package had been in place. This allows Global Telematics to calculate a premium based on a much lower hypothetical loss history.

The Orchid Premium Solution will provide a total Orchid system inclusive for no more than the average cost of a comprehensive insurance premium. This effectively means that an Orchid customer receives a fleet management system with armed recovery at no additional cost yet will pay only a monthly bill for insurance and Orchid system airtime cost. This makes the Orchid Premium Solution the only fully inclusive value- added package of its kind available in South Africa.

Global Telematics SA has already run several scenarios with actual client case histories and has demonstrated some highly impressive results. For example, a company with a small fleet of 12 trucks reduced its annual premiums of around R50 000 per month to just R42 000 per month including the full fleet management system and armed recovery. This equates to a R96 000 saving per annum on insurance premiums, with the Orchid system included and all the associated benefits.

According to Edward Belgeonne, Managing Director of Global Telematics, "Since Orchid was launched in both the UK and South Africa two years ago, it has already demonstrated its ability to provide fleet managers with highly impressive and accurate fleet management, security and cost control ability. In addition, in South Africa it has notched up several achievements in tracking and locating stolen fleet loads and is fast winning a reputation as a deterrent to would-be hijackers and criminals. It is because of this capability that we are now able to provide customers in South Africa with this revolutionary insurance and fleet management package. I envisage that it will be available in the UK in the near future."
