IDS secures Optex wired detector distribution rights

February 2015 News & Events

In September 2014, IDS launched the XWave wireless range, integrating Optex’s wireless detector range into IDS’s X-series panels. The success of that launch encouraged Optex and IDS to take the next step in deepening their partnership and they announced that IDS has now been granted the distribution rights for the full range of Optex wired detectors.

“We’ve been thoroughly impressed with Optex from the first moment we engaged with them,” says Bryan Watson, MD of IDS. “Their products have an unparalleled reputation and we have found their commitment to integrity, innovation and humility to be a close fit with our own culture.”

Giles Calenborne, IDS’ sales director notes that IDS has built its reputation on providing products that are relevant to South Africa’s local environment and are competitively priced. “With the XWave range, we have extended our offering to include the world’s leading detectors, without compromising on our commitment to bring real value to our customers. The fact that the entire wireless component of the integration is designed and manufactured in South Africa has enabled us to achieve this.”

With the launch of the full wired range of detectors scheduled for early January, IDS’s installer base will be able to offer its customers installations with the full basket of Optex detectors, thus offering aesthetic consistency and Optex’s detection capability, alongside IDS’s unique hybrid capability and value.

Another enhancement to the XWave range was also released in December, the XWave eight-channel receiver. This is now offering supervised integration of Optex XWave detectors for installs where an X-Series panel cannot be used. The eight outputs are complemented by outputs for supervision, tamper and low battery. The easy onboard menu system enables simple setup and management.

“Our aim when entering a new market is always to set new standards in quality and value. We believe the market response to the XWave launch confirms that our customers place a real value on that,” says Watson. “We look forward to setting a new benchmark in detector value.”
