Steve Whitehead and Dr Bobby Ndungu to speak at ASIS 2015 conference

February will see the ASIS International, Chapter 203 annual conference taking place in Cape Town from 4 to 6 February 2015. Titled Africa: A New Dawn – Opportunities and Challenges, this is an international security conference focusing on strategies for securing assets in Africa for the next 10-15 years. It features an array of renowned international guest speakers as well as interactive sessions, panel discussions, round tables, table-top exercises (all under Chatham House rules) with real-life experiences and solutions to deal with the many opportunities and challenges of doing business in Africa, a very dynamic and fluid continent.

Two of the speakers in this year’s conference are Steve Whitehead and Dr Bobby Ndungu.

Steve Whitehead founded Corporate Business Insight & Awareness (CBIA) in 1994. He has played a major role in the development and promotion of the use of competitive intelligence (CI) and counterintelligence as a risk management tool. He is one of the most experienced consultants in this unique field in the world. He is an accomplished keynote speaker and regular presenter at international conferences. He has published a number of articles on the topic.

He is a member of Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) (USA), a founding and former executive member of the South African Association of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SAACIP). He is the chairperson of Business Espionage Countermeasures South Africa (BECSA), a counterespionage association. He is an advisory board member of the Espionage Research Institute International (ERII) (Washington) and served as the ASIS International, Johannesburg (chapter 155) chairman from 2004 – 2007. He was a nominee for the 2005 SCIP Board of Directors and the recipient of two SAACIP awards; the SAACIP ‘Meritorious Award’ (1st Recipient) and the SAACIP ‘Certificate of Merit’ for his contributions to the development of competitive intelligence and business counterintelligence as risk management tools in South Africa.

Steve is a former senior Government intelligence specialist and held the rank of manager in the South African National Intelligence Agency (NIA) when he resigned in March 1994.

Dr Bobby Ndungu is currently the Managing Consultant at Southern Africa Security and Risk Management (SAISRM), an Institute that offers security and risk management training and consultancy services. He is a security, enterprise wide risk management and fraud risk management expert with over 37 years experience in both the public and private security sector as well as an international speaker on corporate governance, risk, compliance, security and fraud and has also published articles in reputable magazines.

His security and risk management experience spans from government to quasi-government and the private sector organisations that include 15 years with the uniformed forces where he served as a commissioned officer, 15 years with the Central Bank of Zimbabwe as a security and risk manager, 6 years with a mining conglomerate as Group Security and Risk Manager.

Currently, Ndungu is involved in training of operational and professional security and risk management personnel in Zimbabwe.

Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Arts (Police Science), a Master of Business Administration, (MBA), a Master of Science in Risk Management and a Doctor of Philosophy in business administration (Ph. D Business Administration).

Ndungu is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and a Certified Security Specialist (CSP) with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). He is also the Founding and current President of the Zimbabwe Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
