Scheduled guard tours

November 2014 Security Services & Risk Management

One of the most challenging security issues is effectively managing a facility at night or over the weekend, when it is particularly vulnerable to a variety of criminal acts or vandalism. Employing one or more patrol guards to protect the premises ensures that any anomalies are detected and corrective action is taken immediately, rather than waiting for the next day. But this is only effective if the guard completes the necessary checks and routes.

Impro Technologies has created a feature in its access control software in Access Portal Pro, called ‘Scheduled Tours’ to assist facilities in managing their guards and setting designated routes to be completed. Scheduled Tours allows verification and documentation across the entire facility for each person assigned to complete a designated route. Scheduled Tours is ideal for a multitude of situations, not just for guarding purposes, but cleaning schedules, inspections or healthcare rounds.

Scheduled Tours is designed to monitor people assigned to complete a designated route to fulfil their duties on time and at the correct locations. Programmed on the Access Portal Pro software, one determines the route, names it appropriately, readers are selected to act as check points in the consecutive order the tour is to follow, and a timeframe is added for the route to be completed in.

Access Portal Pro links a tagholder to a tour and provides live transaction views of the scheduled tours, so one can monitor the progress of each scheduled tour. Multiple tours can run at the same time, on the same route. Assigned tagholders need to clock in at points on the route within a pre-set time to prevent the alarm triggering. In addition, fully customised reports and a history view of tagholders transactions can be pulled for each tour.

Scheduled Tours is a powerful new tool for management to know precisely whether and when the persons on the tour completed the route and to be aware of any discrepancies.
