Gain insight into surveillance video

September 2014 Surveillance

TeleEye has announced a new software-based feature, Video Analytics for sureSIGHT Lite and Business. No hardware update is necessary as it is compatible with all TeleEye GX, MX and RX devices. TeleEye Video Analytics is designed to make a company’s surveillance system even smarter and more effective, whether indoor or outdoor.

The amount of video data operators must review is reduced and enables a high level of monitoring for any size of video system. In using this new feature, it saves operational time and costs. The four modules under TeleEye Video Analytics include Intrusion Detection, Loitering Detection, Unattended/ Missing Object Detection and Flow Analysis.

Intrusion Detection recognises unauthorised access in a marked area. As soon as somebody is detected in passing through this predefined area, the alarm will be triggered. This module is applied for monitoring the boundary or restricted area between the landside and airside at airports, enforcing appropriate behaviour within the airports. The system alerts security personnel instantly in order to prompt counter measures.

Loitering Detection is able to detect and distinguish the number of people present and whether they are dwelling in a defined area for a suspicious period of time. The alarm is automatically triggered when someone is loitering over the predefined time limit. With terrorism being a potential threat, this module is beneficial to areas requiring close supervision such as airports, train, subway stations and school campuses.

Unattended/Missing Object Detection can quickly identify an abandoned object automatically. If an object is left unattended over the predefined period of time, the alarm in the software will be triggered, hence alerting the user. Additionally when the module is activated and the object is removed from the premises, the alarm will be triggered again. This is particularly useful for protecting items at museums, galleries, auction houses or jewellers.

Flow Analysis can keep track of people entering and exiting a specific area. TeleEye Flow Analysis can be used in other open areas where crowd management is an issue. This module can be used to assist management in decision making. It can help retailers to determine peak customer periods for roster optimisation and improving product positioning in key areas. The traffic and operational data generated from the system can be used to analyse customer behaviour in order to maximise business opportunities and plan for marketing strategies. As this module can detect and count the number of people approaching new window and counter displays, it helps determine the effectiveness of the amount invested on advertising and promotional campaigns.
