Thermal imaging smart device

September 2014 Surveillance

With transportable technology that brings night and thermal vision power to your tablet, this is the tool for companies involved in security surveillance and night patrolling to detect intruders in total darkness.

The Satir PK160 is the first to offer fitted infrared technology with all the functionality you would expect from your mobile phone. Supported by the Android 4 firmware system, the PK160 has a 5-inch HD capacitive touch screen and WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and an electronic compass as standard features. Users can share thermal information with anyone.

The built-in 160x120 pixel thermal security camera offers crisp thermal images turning night into day, allowing you to see what’s out there through smoke and dust, good and bad weather, up close and at a distance; all in the palm of your hand. The PK160 is a light, compact system, perfect for on-the-go operations. It has a IP54 rating and functions between -20°C to +50°C.

Designed by SATIR and manufactured in Ireland, the PK160 will be available locally through its South African distributors, Vision 24. The technology doesn’t kill your device’s battery life; the PK160 comes with a self-contained battery that lasts for over four hours.

Vernon Kroeger, MD of Vision 24, says, “This is a major step in the introduction of miniature, low-cost thermal imaging cameras in the technology marketplace. Thermal imaging is beneficial in successful security surveillance and a cellphone that does the job makes so much sense. Its portable nature is a big advantage and the fact that it offers all the functionality of a normal smart device, makes it significantly useful. By combining thermal and telecommunication technologies, it’s the ultimate addition to your security firm’s arsenal of equipment.”

Security sector aside, this multi-functional device is proving extremely useful in many other applications, including the maintenance industry where integrated infrared technology easily detects water and air leaks and can isolate electrical problems, preventing downtime. It’s also a handy device for wildlife enthusiasts tracking animals under cover of darkness.

Kroeger says his company can customise the software specifically to customer’s defined requirements.
