Reed Exhibitions SA (organiser of the annual Securex trade exhibition), the Electronic Security Distributors Association (ESDA), POLSEC SETA and Paradigma Publishing (publishers of Hi-Tech Security Solutions) have jointly commissioned a comprehensive survey of the South African security market.
"We expect that this survey will show the size of the market, as well as indicate trends, growth and the dynamics of supply," said Paradigma MD and Editor Darren Smith.
During the eight-week data collection phase, more than 2000 industry leaders will be asked to provide market information in 10 categories, covering areas such as company details, training, access alarms, CCTV, fire protection and perimeter security.
"The information provided by these companies will be kept strictly confidential, but it should give us a better understanding of supply volumes and value-adding services," said Smith. Preliminary data will be interpreted and analysed by a panel of experts before the findings are published, probably around the end of the year.
"The data provided by this survey will be extremely valuable for strategic planning," said ESDA Chairman Anthony Rosenbaum. "This industry is changing rapidly, with a lot of new players and corporate restructuring. An information vacuum has arisen in the last few years.
The time is ripe for a professional survey of this kind, enabling the electronic security industry to have access to valid statistics on an ongoing basis," he said.
"In our opinion, this survey is being conducted at a very opportune time," said Reed Exhibitions General Manager Tom McCafferty. "Its findings are bound to have a positive impact on Securex 2002 and other synergistic events."
