Sensormatic expands with smartcard reader

October 2001 Access Control & Identity Management

Sensormatic Electronics Corporation recently announced the expansion of its C*CURE Smart Program with the introduction of its new smartcard reader SCR-100. The C*CURE Smart Program features applications combining the C*CURE 800 security management system with smartcard technologies.

The SCR-100 is the result of a partnership between Gemplus International SA, a leading provider of solutions empowered by smartcards, and Sensormatic. The two companies teamed up late last year to provide worldwide support for the C*CURE Smart Program. The SCR-100 combines Gemplus' GemEasyLink 680S with Sensormatic's RM-4 personality module. The GemEasyLink 680S allows the reader to communicate with a smartcard, while Sensormatic's RM-4 personality module allows the SCR-100 to be seamlessly connected to a Sensormatic control panel. This design, which is incorporated into Sensormatic's rugged RM Series Reader Housing, facilitates installation with minimal wiring, delivering state-of-the-art technology suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

In addition to enabling users to enhance existing security applications, the C*CURE Smart Program allows building occupants to carry a single card for access control and all their other smartcard applications, including transit fare collection, electronic purse, loyalty card, library card and logical computer system access.
