Cellular detection

May 2014 Products & Solutions

Cellular telephones are not welcome everywhere. They can be a problem in meetings, courts, concert halls, schools, high-security facilities and other areas where access to information has to be restricted. Modern cellular telephones are basically handheld computers. Smart cellular telephones can store date, access the Internet and take high resolution photos, videos and can record audio.

CellDetect provides unobtrusive solutions to prevent cellular telephones entering or leaving (illegally) a facility with dedicated cellular detection scanners (not metal detectors). It also provides the technology to assist with the detection of cellular telephones already in a facility with cellular band radio frequency (RF) scanners and Non-Linear Junction Detectors (NLJDs).

The SentryHound is a di-pole detection device built specifically to sniff out cellular telephones. It consists of two poles separated by an anti-slip mat and can detect phones whether they are on or off. It is so sensitive it will even find phones with their battery removed. The width is compatible with average doorways, turnstiles and security checkpoints. It allows people to pass through the poles in single file at normal walking speed causing minimal impact on foot traffic and crowd flow.

The Mastiff Cellular Detecting Chair is a ruggedised chair that safely scans anyone sitting in it for contraband cellular telephones. The scanning is fast, accurate and sensitive enough to detect a mobile phone hidden in a pocket, sock or any body cavity.

The Wolfhound Pro Cell Phone Detector is a radio frequency (RF) handheld device tuned to the cellular bands frequencies. It will detect activity on the cellular bands whether a cellular telephone makes or receives a call, sends or receives a text message and pings (handshake with the closest tower). It works perfectly in areas where cellular telephone activity has been prohibited as it will immediately detect active cellular activity. It will display the frequency (which indicates the band/uplink or downlink) and will allow the operator to trace the cellular telephone in the facility when the cellular telephone is active.

The Manta Ray Cell Phone Detector is a close range detection device for concealed cellular telephone whether it is On or Off. The Manta Ray differs from traditional metal detectors as it scans for specific components in a cellular telephone.

The Orion 2.4 Non-Linear Junction Detector detects hidden electronic devices. The Orion detects the presence of electronics regardless whether the electronic target is on or off or radiating. It easily locates hidden electronics such as cellular telephones (even a SIM card) hidden in walls, floors, ceilings, fixtures, chairs and furniture.

The Watchhound Cell Phone Monitor is mounted near any doorway or entrance to alert the operator should anyone enter the premises with an active cellular telephone. The Watchhound is networkable and can be connected to other units and your network.

Applications

There is growing evidence that the presence of cellular telephones in prisons has become a huge problem and headache to prison authorities. While prisoners may use their cellphones to maintain contact with family and friends, the devices also provide inmates with an avenue for conducting criminal activity.

Various countermeasures such as jamming the cellular telephones signals have been employed with little success as the inadvertent interference with legitimate cellular telephone users is a concern. The same jamming technology that prohibits inmates from using cellular telephones could also prevent correctional personnel from doing the same for routine business or in the event of an emergency. In the USA prison authorities use dogs that are trained specifically to detect cellular telephones and SIM cards.

CellDetect has the solution and offer various prevention and detection technology solutions. The first type is based on prevention such as the SentryHound, the Mastiff Chair and the Manta Ray Detector that can detect cellular telephones on entering the prison.

The second type of technology is based on the detection of the devices after it made its way into the prison. RF devices such as the Wolfhound Pro and the Watchhound can detect cellular telephone signals that are active within the prison itself. The Manta Ray and the Orion 2.4 NLJD can assist to detect cellular telephones on the person or in the prison cell when doing physical searches.
