Hygienic, contactless verification

March 2014 Access Control & Identity Management

“Many stores track employee arrivals and departures using conventional punched time cards. This system invites fraud and buddy punching,” warns Peter Noppé, managing director of Uniclox Technologies.

“RFID cards and security badges are not 100% reliable as they can be loaned or stolen, and an employee can use the excuse of a lost card to avoid clocking. In comparison, biometric systems are hard to cheat – biometrics cannot be stolen or borrowed, forged or copied. The employee presents his finger, hand or face to the sensor and arrival or departure times are recorded for payroll purposes.”

Fingerprint terminals are the most common and relatively inexpensive, but some employees are uncomfortable about touching the sensor plate. In schools, pharmacies or restaurant food preparation areas, the need for hygiene makes ‘no touch’ biometric terminals particularly appropriate.

Uniclox offers a range of optical face recognition terminals suitable for executive offices, restaurants, education institutions and high-end retail environments (such as jewellery stores). It is a biometric terminal that is appropriate where religious and cultural traditions making touching offensive.

Employees simply look at the clock and in under a second they are identified and clocked in for work. This hygienic alternative to a fingerprint reading eliminates buddy punching and the need for cards and badges.

Uniclox facial recognition terminals have specialised dual camera sensors that easily handle low lighting conditions. The two infrared cameras perform three dimensional facial analysis, providing the faster and more reliable verification. They cannot be fooled by 2D images and photographs.

Uniclox Face ID terminals include Attendance Register software for basic employee data management. The terminal can be linked to a standard existing TCP/IP computer network for easy transfer of data. Using the Attendance Register software, time transactions can be updated, added or edited with an audit trail and security. Management reports give immediate access to accurate, unbiased information for analysis and decision support.
