Small retailer surveillance

March 2014 Retail (Industry)

The retail business is highly competitive and characterised by narrow profit margins. Theft, whether it is committed by employees, shoplifters or others, can therefore pose a major threat to a company’s survival.

The biggest concern for owners of retail establishments is stock loss due to shoplifting and employee theft. Retailers pay a lower insurance fee when they have a comprehensive loss prevention programme in place. CCTV plays a key role in such a programme, however, due to high installation costs small shops, retail stores and pharmacies are often without professional surveillance systems.

The nature of the retail business means that a large number of people has access to the premises, for instance to deliver merchandise or to shop. The potential risks involved require stores to meet demanding criteria with regard to security, safety, communications and building automation. They pose security and safety challenges such as:

* Preventing unaccounted and accidental losses of inventory.

* Detecting intrusion and shoplifting by staff or others.

* Managing a wide variety of different access authorisations.

* Dealing with fires and explosions.

Bosch Security Systems offers a small retail system designed to help business owners tackle these problems. Part of the Easy Line range, quality, easy to install products for use in small businesses and residential homes, the recorder, in combination with WZ Series infrared enabled day/night cameras offer an effective, affordable and hassle free in-store surveillance solution for any straightforward camera system.
