AV Electronics gets Total's security supply contract.

The addition of a technologically advanced security and building management infrastructure makes Total South Africa's new head office in Rosebank a user-friendly, customer and employee-orientated environment in which to work.

Total South Africa recently awarded AV Electronics, specialist in turnkey security systems, the security supply contract for its new head office in Rosebank.

The installation, which was officially handed over at the end of May, is an important deal for AV Electronics. "Designed as a single integrated organism, the entire system is managed through the latest in CCVE (closed circuit video equipment) technology available on the market," says Gary Davids, Marketing and Sales Director of AV Electronics.

Nerve centre

"The control room serves as the nerve centre for the management of the entire building. The multifunction, turnkey system controls all of the 32 CCTV (closed circuit video television) cameras sited in and around the premises: two 16-channel multiplexer units; an access control system complete with turnstiles and traffic barriers on entrance and exit, and an alarm panel.

While not installed by AV Electronics, the company was, however, also responsible for the interface of all essential services such as lights, water and plumbing and air conditioning that are also monitored through the control room. At the mere sounding of an alarm, calls are placed to the necessary emergency services.

"Specialisation is essential in today's business. As a major player in the security industry, AV's aim has always been to have a leading expert in each of the fields that we set out to service. Be it the mining, petroleum or banking sectors, our clients have come to now that our systems and our people are at the forefront of the field."

As new fields unfold, and through proactive change, AV has moved from a company which provided a single product to an organisation offering traditional fee-for-service products alongside customised, new generation services and sophisticated security products. Total SA's new premises clearly brings together all of this in one single operating infrastructure that is both flexible and allows for future growth."

Unobtrusively designed, the system and the products installed were selected for their commitment to reliability, system scalability, performance and fault tolerance. The building is fully supported by a back-up diesel generator and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) in the event of a power failure.
