Summit to address mine security in Africa

Crisis management and security remain key challenges to mining projects across Africa, with metal theft, corruption and illegal mining on the rise. In order to effectively mitigate threats to assets, sites and employees, mining companies need to constantly plan ahead and be aware of potential risks. Tracking, surveillance and intruder detection is imperative to ensure that mine sites are secured from thefts, illegal miners and other criminal activities.

Organised by Fleming Gulf Conferences, the African Mine Security Summit brings finely crafted sessions to address the need for advanced security measures across African mines. Expert speakers include Nash Lutchman, vice president protection services, Sibanye Gold; Dov Zwerling, general manager of protection & regime, ArcelorMittal; Deon du Toit, head global security deployment, De Beers Group of Companies; John Godwill Makoni, group security and risk manager, RioZim; Hery Tiana Rakotoarimalala, security head of services, Ambatovy; Jenny Reid, president, Security Association of South Africa; Major General Andrew Mackay from the British Army; Daniel M Mothabi, senior protection services manager operations, Royal Bafokeng Platinum; Francois Peacock, security manager, First Quantum Minerals; and Isaac Barnie Awuah, head of security investigations, Newmont.

Participants will get a comprehensive understanding of the role of mine security in the current market dynamics. Additionally, the summit will feature ground-breaking new project presentations on security management at remote sites and challenging geographies, human rights policy to protect employees, securing mine sites against organised crimes, approaches towards theft prevention, developments in emergency technology and many more.
