Axis Communications' Technology Day

September 2013 News & Events, Surveillance, Conferences & Events

The first Axis Technology day held in Africa took place on Friday 16 August at the Roodepoort Country Club, Ruimsig. This free, half day seminar was aimed at presenting new product innovations, cutting edge technology and analytics, among other topics. Presentations were also made by the following Axis Technology partners: Raytec, Nuuo and Cathexis.

The day kicked off with Roy Alves, Axis regional business development manager, presenting an overview of the key drivers differentiating Axis Communications from the rest of the industry. These include Axis being the driving force in network video, cultivating strong long term partnerships through working with companies that have a local presence, as well as smart innovative products and solutions.

He mentioned key statistics showing that analogue video is declining at about 2 percent a year with network video in the EMEA region growing at about 22 percent. Alves also identified key trends in Africa such as the growing investment in city surveillance and more airports moving towards IP, thus placing Axis as key market drivers for network video. “With the move away from agricultural land into city centres, cities becoming more vast, more crime and unemployment and all sorts of problems in the centres, there’s an investment into city surveillance projects to secure these urban areas,” Alves states.

Following Alves, NUUO delivered a presentation highlighting its NVRsolo, featuring from four to 16 channels, depending on the model. The NVRsolo boasts a one-click setup with a built-in DHCP server to ensure it is easy and fast to get it running. Even for companies without static IP addresses, ezNUUO allows you to access your footage from anywhere and any device.

Raytec followed NUUO, highlighting the company’s lighting products and solutions, which it says are greener than ever and incorporate intelligent features, including its close integration with Axis solutions. The company’s aim is to provide better night images and more effective lighting, which leads to improved storage, image and bandwidth utilisation for customers.

Finally, Cathexis introduced its company and products, which are all locally developed and manufactured. One of the benefits the company provides its customers with is full backwards compatibility. In his presentation, Gus Brecher noted that some mines in South Africa have over 3000 Cathexis cameras installed, from 10-year-old analogue systems and their DVRs, through to modern IP systems and NVRs, all being managed in real-time from the Cathexis management software.

The presentations were followed by interactive displays showing the latest in innovative products by Axis and Axis partners.
