TSCM represents Audiotel International

August 2013 Security Services & Risk Management, Products & Solutions

Audiotel International is a British company manufacturing technical surveillance countermeasures and surveillance equipment mostly for government and law enforcement. The company has been represented for many years in South Africa by Harold Marshall of Marshall International. Eavesdropping Detection Solutions of Centurion has recently been appointed as the exclusive representatives of Audiotel International in southern Africa.

During the seventies, eighties and early nineties Audiotel International was the world’s leading countermeasures and TSCM equipment manufacturer. The Scanlock countermeasures receiver and the Super Broom Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLJD) were standard equipment in the kit of every professional TSCM survey team. The Super Broom is used to detect hidden electronic devices. It detects the presence of electronics, regardless of whether the electronic device is radiating, hard wired, or even turned off.

During the ‘90s Audiotel lost its dominant position to other equipment manufacturers and did not play a big role in the TSCM equipment manufacturing industry.

The good news is that Audiotel International is back. It recently received a large sum of money from the British government for an order (55 million GBP), has re-launched with a new state of the art factory in Corby, England, has new management, sales and manufacturing teams and an exciting line-up of new TSCM products.

Steve Whitehead of Eavesdropping Detection Solutions was one of about 30 TSCM equipment distributors from all over the world who were invited to attend the Audiotel International re-launch and distributor conference in England this year. The conference was held at the historic and luxurious 15th century Rushton Hall Hotel in Northamptonshire, England.

Eavesdropping Detection Solutions exhibited some of Audiotel’s new equipment at the IFSECSA security exhibition.

On display was the new Scanlock M3, new lightweight Super Broom NLJD (including an integrated metal detector), the Meeting Guard and some other equipment. Part of the Homeland Security exhibition, the company also launched the new Orion 2.4 Non-Linear Junction Detector by Research Electronics International (REI) (USA). It was also the first time that these units were seen in South Africa. A Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLJD) is used during TSCM surveys and sweeps for the detection of hidden electronic devices. A NLJD detects the presence of electronics, regardless of whether the electronic device is radiating, hard wired, or even turned off.

Also on show was the Talan DPA-7000 Telephone and Line Analyser. The Talan is used during TSCM sweeps to test and check cables and a variety of telephone lines, including digital and VoIP lines for the presence of telephone taps and other types of surveillance devices. It is a self-contained unit that encompasses several measurements into a single piece of equipment.

The Meeting Guard provides a flexible solution to keep boardrooms, meeting rooms and other areas where sensitive discussions are held safe from eavesdropping. It provides real-time protection from active devices as well as transmission from store and forward devices.

The Meeting Guard has a compact design that allows it to be deployed easily. It covers a wide range of radio frequencies and detects a wide range of RF listening devices.
