Networked security solution

September 2001 Surveillance

Philips Communication, Security & Imaging (CSI) has made use of the networking revolution to provide a convenient and reliable monitoring of security from a remote site.

The Philips Network Observation System (NOS) transmits and receives videos from up to four cameras and one audio source of the Philips Observation System (POS). Using conventional dial-up telephone lines, the user can connect from a remote PC site to the NOS transmitter and view the images as they are transmitted - whether to a PC at home or an alternative location - thus allowing the user to keep abreast of the security situation at all times. The NOS also offers the user the ability to operate action boxes from the remote site, ie the user who dials into the POS from a remote site can give access to an authorised person by unlocking the door remotely.

The NOS contains an automatic alarm handling feature that allows the system to automatically alert the user by dialling-up the remotely located PC and displaying the alarm video image. The NOS will log up to 12 alarm images prior to sending live video to the PC. The user can acknowledge the alarm remotely and will be continuously updated with alarm footage.

In addition, the System4 Video Multiplexing System incorporates advanced circuitry and expanded memory with improved colour sampling and processing to produce high quality, true-to-life colour video images via remote keyboards.

The System4Server provides a cost-effective, high-performance digital surveillance solution that offers video streaming and control via LAN, WAN or the Internet. This system allows the user to view recorded images without interrupting recording and allows the user to remotely manage the system over a network connection, including remote control of pan/tilt and zoom features, using a PC or optional desktop keyboard.

Other hi-tech features of the System4Server include: three password-protected user access levels, selectable or automatic bandwidth management and Advanced Intelligence Encryption (AIE) to ensure the video has not been altered.
