Access control at an affordable level

September 2001 Access Control & Identity Management

Access control and asset tracking specialist Evolving Management Solutions (EMS) has revised its pricing structures and reduced costs making its internationally recognised access control System 42 affordable at both SME and corporate levels.

Announcing the slash in costs, Steve Mason, Marketing Director at EMS, told Hi-Tech Security Solutions that prices for the entry-level S 42 Pro version for small-to-medium enterprises and the larger ProServ version had been cut by as much as 60%.

"We made this decision in conjunction with our international sales partners with a view to expanding the S 42 user base both in South Africa and abroad. Initial R&D costs and production fees have decreased substantially allowing us to offer these reductions to business partners and subsequently to the end- user," says Mason.

Mason adds that S 42 was recently revamped with a threefold advantage including simplifying the user interface, improving speeds by as much as 30% and making the installation process effortless.

"Our research and development team under the project leadership of Development Manager Ernest Kleynhans included a far more intuitive front-end which many users will recognise as being very similar to that of Microsoft Outlook.

"With speeds improved by 30%, it is very significant for users who want to upgrade from the entry-level Pro product to the ProServ version. Additionally, embedded 'wizards' will guide users through the entire set-up procedure, simplifying the installation process," says Mason.

He points out that apart from these three key driving factors, several more features and product functions have been introduced including:

* Dynamic icons: emergency eventualities such as a fire or unauthorised intrusion will be displayed on the screen in the form of an animated icon.

* Alarm scripting: basic scripting allows for flexible input and output linking.

* HTML on-line help.

* Docking tool bar.

* Access across PSTN, ISDN, WAN, LAN protocols.

Kleynhans adds that the release of Version 3 follows a period of intense programming and development. "By recreating the network code we have made S/42 a more stable product and it is easier to maintain," he concludes.
