Makro secured with IP

April 2013 Surveillance, Retail (Industry)

Over 100 high definition (HD) cameras from Hikvision were installed by Secure at Makro’s Distribution Warehouse in Midrand, Gauteng.

“Makro requested a comprehensive needs analysis requiring top quality IP cameras at an affordable price to match their budget. Quintin Marais, sales director of Secure, Henry Brown, sales director of Sensor Security Services and Lourens Wessels who consulted as an independent advisor to Makro, compiled a solution which gave Makro a high quality IP camera/monitor room solution with fibre optic network connectivity.

Independent consultant Wessels was contracted as he has extensive IP video and project management experience with several large-scale projects in SA, Angola, Botswana and other neighbouring countries. The installation was completed by installation teams from Secure, a company which specialises in camera systems in the retail industry. The cameras are viewed by Secure on 11 large monitors on-site and connect to an off-site monitoring facility outside working hours.

“Makro required a complete system that could cover the entire premises, stock, entrances and exits, fence and perimeter – with an onsite control room for daily monitoring,” explains Wessels. “It was also vital that cars, trucks and people should be easily identifiable and that the system is cost-effective, easy to operate and simple to maintain.

“The size of the plant and scope of the project called for HD infrared cameras on a fibre optic network which could enable the transfer of huge amounts of data over long distances. High definition video was the only solution for the link to Secure’s remote control room for monitoring and response after hours. The entire installation comprises of a Hikvision IP system with seven network video recorders.
