LMR Expo to host an array of exihibitors.

October 99 News & Events

There is plenty in store for Land Mobile Radio Expo visitors this year due to the diversity of exhibitors involved in the event, all of whom believe that wireless communication is not only essential but is also the future of communication on our continent.

The emergence in recent years of new and competing communication technologies such as cellular, Internet and ISDN is exerting tremendous pressure on the other communication sectors to not only retain their market share but also to stimulate growth and development. The Land Mobile Radio Expo '99 will host exhibitors such as Nokia Telecoms/ Networks, One-to-One Communications, SATRA, Spectrum Communicators, Mobile Radio Distributors and Symbol Technologies.

According to Nina Reselnik from Telatec, "Wireless communication is vital in Africa, as there are few sophisticated or highly developed communication systems in place, except for wireless communication."

Companies such as Spectrum Communications have been a part of Land Mobile Radio Expo for the past 10 years with organisations such as Telatec involved for the past five years. New exhibitors include Africa Radio Distributors which sees the event as an ideal platform for it to introduce itself to the wireless market.

Diverse categories

The exhibition will display diverse categories such as two-way radios, radio alarm systems, radio paging, radio data, control centres, networks and computer applications, video telemetry, mapping, satellite, microwave technology, components, accessories, services and technologies relevant to the industry. A few of the companies involved will be showcasing for the first time vehicle tracking systems and digital radios, to mention a few.

"There has been tremendous growth in the cellular industry since its launch in South Africa but trunking has not followed this trend. However, we firmly believed in the trunking industry in South Africa is moving into a phase of rapid development. It is for this reason that we have decided to participate in this year's LMR Expo," said Johan Alback, Business Development Manager at Nokia Telecommunications RSA. Nokia sees the expo as a perfect platform to create awareness and educate the PMR (professional mobile radio) community about Tetra, the new global digital trunked radio standard that is changing the world of professional mobile radio.

Land Mobile Radio Expo will include a series of workshops/presentations sponsored and presented by leading exhibitors. The workshops will be free for all visitors and it will highlight new products, hands-on practical, technical knowledge and key trends in the industry. Motorola will host the first two sessions on Tuesday, 5 October and Nokia, together with Grintek Electronics Systems, will host its first workshop on Wednesday, 6 October. Grintek/Nokia will be hosting seminars to demonstrate how the Tetra system provides the most professional way of connecting people.
