Advanced dome camera

August 2001 Surveillance

Replacing its existing range of 10-dome cameras, which included both black and white and colour in RS485; coax; telephoto; hi-resolution and medium resolution, Panasonic's new Super Dynamic II WV-CS850 series offers all these features and more in a single unit.

According to Mags Anthony, Director of Panasonic's CCVE Systems Department, "This camera offers flexibility in terms of the actual system design, at the point of installation and it also offers the operator a variety of options once the camera is installed."

The new camera utilises Super Dynamic II technology that combines long and short image signals to provide an output capable of natural reproduction of images in varying lighting conditions. The new technology provides a dynamic range 80 times greater than a conventional video camera enabling one to view images clearly, even when the scene includes both direct sunlight and dark shade. One can observe and identify clear images, even when viewing fluctuating light levels, such as a window or entranceway.

Wide range of features

"Panasonic has developed camera technology that performs as efficiently as the human eye, overcoming the security market's inherent problem - the way cameras see and react to adverse lighting conditions," enthuses Anthony.

The WV-CS850 series dome offers high-picture quality at illumination levels as low as 1lx in colour mode and 0,06lx in black and white. It boasts a 220 times zoom (22 times optical and 10 times electronic) and automatic changeover to black and white mode. The camera was designed for high sensitivity in minimum illumination, making it suitable for a variety of applications, including casinos, mines, hotels, banks, outdoor parking lots and in areas surrounding money vaults.

The camera also comes with a built-in motion detector, and a privacy zone masking function that allows the user to ensure certain areas are masked out from the camera's sweep when it is being used in zones of potential sensitivity. The patrol learn function, invaluable for retail outlets, allows users to set a routine path to follow. Physical contact-free and optical video signal transfer type slip-ring systems provides noiseless imaging.
