Lockout tagout solutions

May 2012 Products & Solutions

Local specialist in cable marking and identification products, Grafo Wiremarkers, can now supply the full range of Brady Lockout Tagout products and services. Used in industry, this planned safety procedure ensures that the energy supply to dangerous equipment or machinery remains off during maintenance or repairs.

The Brady range of Lockout devices and Tagout cover most mechanical and electrical applications. In addition, other critical aspects of a compliant, effective energy control program are covered by providing solutions for training employees, creating documented procedures and identifying energy sources. By implementing the full program, safety is optimised while efficiency is improved and downtime minimised.

Establishing a good lockout/tagout program requires three basic steps:

* Developing a written program that involves identifying and writing procedures for the control of hazardous energy. This includes preparation for shutdown, equipment isolation, lockout/tagout application, release of stored energy and verification of energy isolation to each piece of equipment.

* Both affected and authorised employees must be trained in the specific energy control procedures as established by the company.

* Implementing the procedures for the many different energy sources including electricity, pneumatics, steam, gas, liquids and others.

The range of Lockout devices for mechanical risk applications includes those for ball, gate, and butterfly valves in any or all positions; cables, cylinders and pneumatics. For electrical risk there are plug, circuit and miniature circuit breaker lockouts. For tagout requirements Grafo supplies Brady tags to indicate that the energy -isolating devices and equipment being controlled must not be operated until the tag has been removed. There are also holders, safety management systems, magnetic identification and customised tags.
