IFSEC West Africa 2012 review

April 2012 News & Events

UBM Montgomery has announced that IFSEC West Africa’s return to the EKO Hotel and Conference Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, for its second year, was another success.

Held from 6-7 March 2012, delegates from Africa, Europe and as far afield as the USA, all converged on Lagos for an informative two-day event, which is fast gaining momentum as one of the leading security and fire exhibitions on the African continent.

“It is gratifying to see how this event has grown, just one year since our launch in 2011,” says Ross Cullingworth, commercial events director at Montgomery Africa (a subsidiary of UBM Montgomery). “For the past year we have tried to introduce a range of new features, such as the Nigerian Security Seminar, and offer both our exhibitors and visitors with the ultimate platform to conduct business in an ideal environment,” says Cullingworth. “The growth of the show in 2012 shows that these efforts are paying dividends and has encouraged us to invest even more in this show next year.”

“For our company, the greatest value we generate from exhibiting at a show like this, is the exposure we get to an expanded installer market as well as business leaders from various other sectors such as the banking industry, for example,” said Sean McCarthy, regional sales manager, exports division at Elvey Security Technologies, South Africa. “It also provided us with an opportunity to extend our brand’s presence and to meet new distributors. The show did meet all our expectations and we made some great contacts, which I am certain will lead to growth in business going forward.

“We felt that IFSEC West Africa 2012 was very well organised and well attended,” says Adam Butchart, marketing manager of Centurion Systems, which actually opened up a new branch in West Africa, after attending IFSEC West Africa in 2011. “We used the show as an opportunity to attract new customers, build stronger ties with our existing customer base and to improve our brand’s presence in the West African region.”

According to Nosa Oadiase of Acti-Tech, a Nigerian ICT company that specialises in the design, sales, supply, installation, integration and maintenance of information and communications technology systems, IFSEC West Africa provided the opportunity to get better acquainted with consultants, seeking innovative solutions. “It also provided a platform for us to introduce our product manufacturers to new and existing clients.”

Terry Scallan, former chairman of the board of governors and member of the South African Institute of Security provided an introduction of Homeland Security and Counter Terrorism. This was followed by a presentation on Protecting Railways and Transport Assets by David Gorshkov of Grape Business Services.

“For any security professional, IFSEC West Africa 2012 provided a one-of-a-kind opportunity to engage with leading Commercial, Homeland and Fire Protection product and service providers,” says Cullingworth. “We look forward to building on the success of this year’s event and look forward to presenting a show next year which will once again make a significant impact on the West African security market,” he concluded.
