Security in monthly installments

Distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) announced its selection as a Symantec ExSP licensing fulfilment partner. The ExSP programme is an innovative new licensing model that enables resellers to buy Symantec software on a monthly, subscription-based model, helping their customers to make the most of IT budgets while still accessing leading security tools and software.

While software as a service is nothing new and outright buying software has been the model for many years, the Symantec ExSP model is unique in that it enables end-users to rent the software. The software can then be installed on-site or as an alternative service providers can offer it as hosted solution. This move comes as a result of a changing market and customer demands. It provides Symantec Service Providers with a new route to market and the opportunity to offer end users a more model that is easily scalable to meet the changing needs of the modern enterprise.

“This model is aimed at service provider type resellers of all sizes and has a number of benefits for the Service Providers, their customers and end users,” says Fred Mitchell, Symantec Business Unit Manager at DCC.

“For Service Providers this model means increased flexibility in delivery options, as resellers are now able to offers Symantec software as part of a managed service on a pay-as-you-go basis. Customers can allocate the cost of this software to operational expense, rather than the capital cost of purchasing software - enabling them to make the most out of their IT budgets and take advantage of the quality and features of Symantec without large initial expenses,” he adds.

The ExSP licensing model enables service providers to complement their monthly service offering with market leading security and backup solutions, provide a more flexible and competitive offering to customers, generate regular and predictable revenue streams and eliminates the need for purchasing licenses in advance. It also enables simplified management of software licensing, with a billing cycle that matches the service provider business model. This new model also has many advantages for the end user. Customers pay only for the software and solutions they need, on a per-user, per-month basis, so there is no need for unnecessary capital expenditure. All Symantec ExSP licensing include Symantecs Essential maintenance and upgrades, which means customers are guaranteed the most up to date product versions and the solution is ideally suited to businesses of all sizes.

“While this new model is highly beneficial to our resellers and to end users, it has been an intensive process for DCC to ensure that we are able to offer this service seamlessly. We have taken all of the necessary measures to ensure that our already strong administrative department is able to handle this new licensing method, that processes were adapted where necessary and that our billing system was up to date. Our national Symantec sales teams have received intensive training, and we have ensured that our support services are able to incorporate this model. We are now 100% ready to start distributing the Symantec ExSP licenses,” Mitchell says.

The ExSP licensing model is now available from DCC on a range of Symantec products, including Backup Exec 2010, System Recovery 201, Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition, Protection Suite Small Business Edition, Endpoint Protection Enterprise Edition and Protection Suite Enterprise Edition.
