March Networks and the Basix Group offer true end-to-end recording platform solutions [ADVERTORIAL]

March 2012 Surveillance

The Basix Group, security system integrators with over 20 years of experience, and a strong presence throughout South Africa, serves the government and private sector customers in the financial, transportation, commercial-industrial and infrastructure markets. A fully accredited ISO 9001:2000 integrator, Basix has the expertise, technologies and the design and tailored engineering capabilities to provide a complete range of smart solutions.

Basix and its partnership with March Networks, a leading provider of intelligent IP video solutions, have helped some of South Africa’s largest commercial and government organisations transition from traditional CCTV to networked video surveillance used for advanced security, loss prevention and risk mitigation.

One of the first manufacturers to introduce networked and hybrid surveillance platforms, the end to end solution strategy gives customers the flexibility to deploy all-IP video today, or to migrate to an open, IP video environment cost effectively through the selective adoption of advanced technologies. It also supports the common management of both IP and hybrid IP/analog systems across large-scale enterprises with hundreds, or thousands, of locations.

One particular US retailer selected the March Network’s Managed Video Network Services to ensure optimal performance of more than 27 000 March Networks IP video systems currently operating in its stores nationwide.

The March Networks product range is utilised in over 400 of the world’s banks and is also the No. 1 DVR in the North American banking market, as well as being the first company to offer a completely web-based Video Management System solution.

Several major transportation infrastructure projects within South Africa are equipped with state-of-the-art March Networks video surveillance systems, to help create a safe and secure environment.

On completion of Johannebsurg’s new Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system consisting of more than 250 kilometres of dedicated bus lanes and 150 stations, will be equipped with March Networks fixed and PTZ IP cameras, installed at every station by Bona Electronic Solutions (Pty) Ltd., a Basix Group Company. The cameras are linked to the Joint Command and Control Centre operated by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) via a high-speed fibre-optic network.

Bona Electronic Solutions also won the contract to supply the fixed video recording systems for South Africa’s 80-kilometre Gautrain, another major transportation project. The fixed Gautrain video surveillance system with a total of more than 1000 cameras, is connected to March Networks VideoSphere Edge encoders and networked recorders. The system includes a viewing station at each rail station as well as five monitoring stations at Gautrain’s control centre to investigate incidents and proactively monitor platform risks such as overcrowding.

Bona Electronic Solutions is also using the March Networks recorders for Intelligent Transportation Systems that monitor traffic on major highways serving Johannesburg and several other cities in South Africa.

“In all cases, March Networks technology was our first choice for these transportation projects,” said Jeff Groenewald, managing director of Basix. “Quality, reliability, open architecture and value for money are always key considerations. The March Networks NVRs offer a range of solution options, from health monitoring of networked cameras, recorders and other components to audits and training, to best meet specific customer requirements.”

Hybrid NVRs and DVRs

The March Network’s network video recorders (NVRs) are scaleable recording platforms able to support both IP and analog cameras. They deliver outstanding video compression and as much as 8TB of internal storage, with external storage options. You can choose from a range of form factors to meet your specific site requirements, and take advantage of advanced health management for optimum recording system performance.

March Networks NVRs can be managed with their Command video management platform or Visual Intelligence software. They integrate easily with their IP cameras and encoders, and support a range of optional video analytics.

7532 Hybrid NVR

The 7532 Onvif compliant Hybrid NVR is a powerful and easy-to-use networked video recorder that supports both high-definition (HD) megapixel IP cameras and existing analog cameras. The 7532 provides H.264 compression and supports a total of 32 IP/analog cameras.

4332/4324 C Hybrid NVRs

The 4332 C and 4324 C Hybrid NVRs double the IP video capacity of our industry-leading 4000 C series network recorders. Compatible with both March Networks

Command and Visual Intelligence software, these network recorders deliver enhanced live monitoring and investigation via a single software interface. They support multiple third-party IP cameras and access control integrations, as well as optional embedded analytics.

Command intelligent video management solution

March Networks Command intelligent video management solutions provides a single, web-based interface for managing your video surveillance infrastructure, and you do not have to change a thing. Your hardware platform. Your browser. Your operating system. Your database. Your business applications. To accommodate different server environments, Command is available in two versions, each with the same powerful feature set, the same user interface and the ability to scale as your organisation grows.

* Command Professional: for single server environments and up to 128 cameras.

* Command Enterprise: for multiple-server environments and up to 128 000 cameras.

Web-based Interface

A cross-platform, browser-based interface that’s focused on each individual user’s tasks means the Command GUI is familiar and customised for frequent users. Up to 36 live and archive streams per screen add to the flexibility of the interface, and allow users to optimise the variety of information available for monitoring and reviewing.

Third-party Integration

Use Command to maximise the benefits of other security and surveillance systems you use on a daily basis, such as access control, mass notification, incident management, and licence plate recognition systems.

Video Monitoring

A host of surveillance and monitoring tools help users have more control over their security responsibilities.

* PTZ control including automatic presets and guard tours.

* Advanced and intelligent alarm/recording capabilities (eg, Motion detection, motion tracking, pre-determined schedules, etc.).

* Synchronised audio and video playback and export that is location independent.

* Graphical video timeline during playback.

* Save and print snapshots.

* Instant replay.

* Standardised playback controls.
