Most people in the security industry agree that 2011 was a tough year. Elvey’s Jack Edery says 2011 was a challenging, but exciting year.

In the course of 2011, Elvey increased its range of products and is set to capitalise on the growing move to wireless security products through its DSC range as well as Visonic.

He does not foresee a sudden surge to wireless products, but a consistent acceptance as these systems prove their reliability and cost effectiveness. Hybrid (wired and wireless) installations will be the order of the day for some time to come. In greenfield installations there will be greater scope for wireless solutions to help cut the costs of the project and the cost of ongoing maintenance.

Elvey also bought Pentagon in 2011, which gives the company access to the Bosch range of surveillance products as well as a respected team of skilled people. The combination of the two companies will expand the customer base, the range of products and the areas in which both companies have skilled personnel to support customers. Looking ahead, the ongoing trend to convergent solutions is also changing the way customers buy security solutions and the industry will need to take note of this in the coming year. Furthermore, while energy efficiency and sustainability has not made much of an impact in the industry, this is an increasingly important aspect of corporate buying decisions.

Looking at expanding areas of influence, Edery also sees further growth and opportunities up in Africa for Elvey.

He is also aware of the increasing number of IT companies moving into the security space. This is part of the challenge the security industry faces in the coming year. Overall, Edery says Elvey is in a good position to do well in 2012. Even though the indicators show a flat year ahead, he says the company is taking a positive approach, confident that its people, products, skills and attitude will make 2012 a successful year.
