Fully-integrated RFID system

Sensormatic Electronics Corporation recently released SensorSmart, a fully-integrated radio frequency identification (RFID) system designed for the retail market.

SensorSmart is the first commercially available, self-contained RFID system, incorporating tags and readers with application software to provide a total RFID solution for the retail market. At the centre of the system is an intelligent tag that stores information about a product as it moves through the supply chain. The tag is able to collect information on a product as it moves from the point of production through distribution all the way to the sales floor, thereby saving time and money.

"With the launch of our SensorSmart RFID product line, Sensormatic has put all the components in place to bring a complete RFID solution together for our customers," said Per-Olof Loof, President and CEO of Sensormatic. The first products to be released as part of Sensormatic's new RFID line include a hand- held reader/writer system with a personal digital assistant (PDA) that executes software programs for tag programming, inventory counting and item locating.

The SensorSmart system is based on Intellitag RFID technology developed by Intermec Technologies Corporation, a leader in the development, manufacture and integration of automated data collection and mobile computing systems.
