Baxall, a UK CCTV manufacturer, has had a selection of its control equipment installed in Winchester Cathedral.
The Cathedral, which was built in the seventh century, is home to a range of priceless treasures - including ancient manuscripts, church plate, statues and fine works of art. These are protected by the recently installed CCTV system which is monitored and controlled from a dedicated room (where the racks are housed) and the Verger's Vestry.
The prime reason for the installation of the system, however, were not the standard security applications. It has also been put to good use by the architect, to monitor the flow of visitors over the ancient tiles in the east end of the Cathedral to ensure they are not damaged, and by the musical staff.
In order to achieve this threefold use of the CCTV system, three Baxall ZKX3/J remote keyboards with three-axis joystick have been installed in the areas mentioned above.
A flexible design, the CCTV system can also be monitored from the kiosk at the entrance to the Cathedral via a Baxall remote switcher and monitor, as well as from any point around the Cathedral.
