With the acquisition of Cardkey, a provider of access control systems and integrated security systems, Johnson Controls is now able to offer a security solution that provides open architecture integration and interface capabilities with legacy equipment.
"The acquisition provides Johnson Controls with a competitive edge by including a quality access control system built on NT technology in our product offering that integrates with the Metasys Building Management system," says Neil Cameron, Controls Division Manager of Johnson Controls SA.
Cardkey's Pegasus 2000 is able to interface with older equipment as the system utilises the intelligent Cardkey CK720 network controllers, which can be custom programmed to read almost any access card format, including magnetic stripe and proximity technologies. This means existing readers and cards may be retained and utilised, reducing the cost of a new system considerably.
Cameron continues: "Security systems should not be packaged as a 'one size fits all' solution. Each client has his own unique requirements according to size and infrastructure, which necessitates a system that is suited to a company's head count and the size of the premises."
Pegasys 2000 offers integration with Johnson Control's Metasys Building Management system through the BACnet communication protocol. Cameron concludes: "Installation costs are reduced by using a common building network and uptime is maximised by ensuring all BMS and security subsystems are compatible. These are just a few of the benefits that resulted from the Cardkey acquisition."
