South African developer and manufacturer Cathexis will be releasing its new DVR-1008 product in July. This low-cost product has eight full frame rate analogue video channels, eight isolated inputs, four relay outputs, one channel of bi-directional audio and two RS422 ports. On top of this, the system can also accommodate the full range of Cathexis and third-party IP cameras (Axis, Bosch, Samsung, Sanyo, Mobotix, Arecont etc.).
The system is compatible with all the existing Cathexis systems and software and offers full remote monitoring capabilities. Video 'transcoding' is implemented for efficient streaming over low bandwidth links and the same level of third party integration (alarm panels, POS, access control, fire panels etc,) capability as the larger Cathexis systems is available. The system also provides the Cathexis health-monitoring capability, which provides automatic environmental, camera, hard drive, database and software integrity monitoring and alarming.
This system is targeted at the enterprise market where companies have multiple small outlets and is also suited to the remote monitoring market where customers need the sophisticated Cathexis alarm handling environment, but with a low cost on-site solution. The system was originally designed for a retail customer in Pennsylvania who has 900 stores and a central monitoring control room. Their system is also integrated with their access control systems.
