Keep it simple

March 2010 Surveillance

We know that 95% of CCTV images prove to be useless in a court of law and that 90% of the cost of going to court is spent on legal representation, let alone the cost in time and energy of the staff involved.

Vision Catcher supplies Avigilon to the southern African market. The company develops its solutions with the understanding that getting the right picture requires an end-to-end solution; the right camera, the right means of streaming information and the right software solution to ensure the information captured is sufficient to provide a full answer.

One of the keys to its success is Avigilon’s ability to calculate the Pixels on Target, ensuring the right lens is used for capturing the information required.

Knowing that we are capturing the information required, we can then ensure that the networking and distributed architecture enables us to record for the stated period. In an open environment, we can replace 56 cameras with one single Avigilon camera.

In a enclosed environment we can replace multiple cameras with a choice of one to five MP high-definition day/night cameras with cut filter that offer a 0.02 lux in ambient light and unlimited lux using built in IR illuminators. Add to this the Wide Dynamic Range of the cameras and you rarely have a problem.

With the use of the Avigilon encoder, users can stream up to 80 cameras into a single server proving the capabilities of the high definition stream management.

Moreover, with the number of CCTV cameras currently in use, improvements to existing systems often require a complete change to a new analogue or IP solution. Avigilon provides a stepping stone enabling customers to keep their legacy cameras and cabling while providing an interface to the Avigilon Control Centre (ACC).

The ACC provides significant advantages using the search functionalities offering motion, pixel, thumbnail, point of sale and licence plate to get right to the key information. The additions of POS, LPR and even audio are integrated into the ACC platform providing multiple options for reviewing live and historical information even to the ability to export and cut CD or DVD evidential material in a matter of seconds.
