RedZebra offers mobile picture management

June 2009 Surveillance

In essence RedZebra Mobile is a picture management system which groups all pictures received from cellphone, digital and CCTV cameras into secure picture galleries, and can be accessed from any location through a Web-browser. The two fundamental criteria are that it is globally accessible and no software downloads are necessary.

An example of an application of RedZebra Mobile is in the construction industry, where an architect can assist the builder in solving on-site problems without leaving his office. The builder sends pictures of problems from his cameraphone to the appropriate picture gallery, which the architect can view immediately, and then make an informed decision. This system saves the industry time, money and a more importantly, a record is kept of the interaction in solving the problems encountered.

The standard system has been designed to be used across all industries, but it is versatile and can be customised to meet specific requirements. Recently certain clients have requested the encryption of both the picture and the GPS geocoding. The geocode is tagged to the picture. The encryption will give the client the confidence that their sensitive information is secure, while the GPS confirms the authenticity of the location of the picture.

Another example is the application of RedZebra CCTV, specifically developed for the armed response industry, for remote viewing of any CCTV camera. The control room views the client’s cameras by exception, and only when an alarm triggers, are the camera pictures sent to the control room. On the basis that the majority of alarms are false, this allows response companies to prioritise by identifying true alarms.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, RedZebra Mobile offers its services free to all non-government organisations. The voluntary wild fire services in Cape Town use RedZebra Mobile to send pictures directly from the fire line to the fire control centre from where response is planned and managed. Previously, pictures were taken on a digital camera at the fire line, the memory card removed and delivered by motor vehicle to the centre. Now the information is available immediately. RedZebra Mobile is currently developing the interface between a SIM-card CCTV camera and the RedZebra Mobile fire control system, which would allow a steady stream of pictures from the helicopter to the Control Centre.
