D-Tec wins fire excellence award

D-Tec, part of AD Group has won a prestigious Fire Excellence Award during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, held to coincide with the International Firex and Fire & Rescue exhibitions.

The company came out on top in the key Export Innovation category for its successful deployment of VSD, which analyses images to provide an early warning of fire, across a growing number of tunnel projects worldwide. Applications of note undertaken by D-Tec, and its regional partners, highlighted in the award submission, include: the landmark Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, in conjunction with BSS-ME; Italian road tunnels working with Thermostick and VSD commissioned in Sydney Harbour Tunnel by Chubb (Australasia).

Said Ian Moore, managing director of D-Tec: "The confined nature of tunnels presents a uniquely challenging environment where fire safety is concerned. Factors such as the length of tunnels, the difficulty of access, and the higher heat release rate from fire, make any delay even more critical than in other scenarios. As a result, at D-Tec, we are seeing growing interest in the deployment of video smoke detection with its proven ability to identify smoke rapidly (typically in seconds).

There is also the added flexibility which comes with the availability of IP-based solutions such as FireVu, including our latest model which combines smoke and flame detection."
