GSC Systems has added a new fingerprint reader to its range. The 647-50 is a combined fingerprint and RFID reader with a durable, anti-static optical sensor. The unit is easily integrated with both the ProxNet and ProxnetPro systems to enhance the security of an access control installation.

The 647-50 can be used in two modes:

* RFID card plus Fingerprint (1:1) – up to 5000 templates.

* Fingerprint only (1:N) – up to 600 templates.

The 647-50 fingerprint reader connects to the Proxnet/ProxnetPro system via a reader interface unit shown in the picture. In operation the 647-50 verifies the user's fingerprint and if it is valid, sends the user's associated card number to the ProxNet or ProxnetPro system for normal access control validation. Fingerprint acceptance or rejection is indicated by a multicoloured LED.

Fingerprint enrolment is accomplished using an enrolment PC running Template Management software. This software may be installed on any Windows (2000/XP/Vista) PC. Fingerprint templates may be uploaded from the PC to the fingerprint readers via an RS232, RS485 or Ethernet connection. Each user can record multiple fingerprints. Templates learnt on one unit may be bulk or selectively uploaded to other units on the network.
