RDC celebrates 30th anniversary

June 2008 News & Events

Over the past 30 years RDC has supplied control room base stations, repeaters and high-powered long-range radio transmitters to the security industry. The demand for the product throughout South Africa, Africa and many countries around the world and the constant need for 24-hour technical service has been in the forefront of the company's service level offering. Many technically able, reliable and dedicated staff members are employed in the technical department to provide assistance to customers who often make use of the technical resources. RDC prides itself on being able to satisfy the technical needs of its customers for the last 30 years. Our significant growth over the last few years has seen an exponential demand for technical assistance from our customers. For this reason, additional technical personnel have been employed.

Although RDC products are versatile and easy to use each individual company has different requirements and may face challenges with regards to their control room location, area of operation, repeater location, expansion requirements and so on. Theo Roux, Mauritzio Borsato, Peter Olhaus, Arnold Potgieter and Thobani Ngidi have, between them, over 60 years of experience in radio communication and are trained extensively on the RDC products to offer technical assistance 24 hours a day.

Common knowledge, within the industry, is that VHF frequency spectrum is difficult to obtain from ICASA. This problem combined with the large number of transmitters required by ICASA to be installed on a frequency has led to RDC continuously developing more intelligent repeating equipment. The technical staff work closely with the research and development staff and management, advising them of customer requirements, product improvements and carrying out bench and field tests on new equipment due to be released. This gives the technical staff an in-depth knowledge of the products and valuable understanding of what should be achieved when designing a radio network for a customer.
