Versatile alarm system

With the increase of crime in the residential areas of South Africa, domestic security is an absolute necessity to ensure families are secure while in the home environment. "Most domestic burglaries take place while residents are home and generally occur between the hours of 7 and 11 pm," says John Rogers of Texecom. "As these are soft targets (car, safe keys etc, are available) and this has necessitated a re-think in the traditional domestic security where alarms were designed to protect the premises while residents were away to now designing and supplying product to ensure systems are user friendly while residents are home." Texecom has made substantial investments in ensuring its products meet end-user requirements for a safer home and business environment.

Texecom control panels, from entry level, offer six home arming modes making these products versatile control equipment. A typical domestic security system should have both external and internal detection devices which should be split into areas - four sets of Atsumi beams covering the perimeter of the premises allowing home mode one to arm the front area, home mode two to arm the full perimeter, home mode three the entire perimeter and bedroom area and home mode four the entire premises excluding sleeping area. These areas are fully selectable by the installation technician to meet specific needs. Texecom control panels are fully GPRS, GSM and IP compatible and thereby offer the most versatile communication formats on the market to date. Texecom alarm systems allow arming and disarming remotely, with full security, via a mobile phone thus adding the versatility of being able to arm and disarm one's system from anywhere in the world.

There is an emerging trend that intruders now cloak themselves to avoid detection. Texecom's CloakWise detector was developed in 2001 to limit the event of intruders cloaking themselves and thereby avoiding detection. It is recommended that all security installations should utilise a number of CloakWise detectors in high-risk areas of the installation such as TV lounge and main bedroom.
