Safeguarding Pep

February 2008 News & Events

Pepkor Retail ('Pep') recently took occupation of an innovative distribution hub in Isando. The 39 000 m² structure includes offices, canteens and other facilities.

Pep was actively involved in the internal design of the facility ensuring that the electronic security solution fulfilled its unique needs with the possibility for future expansion.

Pep chose Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator to secure and safeguard these premises. The offering is a revolutionary suite of integrated facility management applications. It is designed to provide complete control of buildings, while offering unrivalled integration with business processes. The solution was supplied and installed by systems integrator IDtek Solutions. Julian Thorrold of IDtek explains, "Within Honeywell EBI there are powerful software applications such as: Honeywell Building Manager, LifeSafety Manager and Security Manager. Each helps to better manage various facets of buildings, while together they provide a complete 'picture of your enterprise'."

While the intention initially is that Pep operates security off this platform, at a later point in time EBI can be expanded to provide single-window control of HVAC, lighting and electrical equipment. Currently the solution integrates building access and security systems in a single operator interface. The solution also provides a scalable digital CCTV solution that eliminates the need for coaxial cables and provides unmatched camera portability. At a later point in time Pep may choose to integrate energy management across its entire enterprise on the same platform.
