The electronic visitor identity management (EVIM) system can positively identify visitors. The system works by verifying the validity of a name and ID number and by capturing a fingerprint. Based on Sagem's biometric and GPRS technology, the system will register and identify a visitor in less than 60 seconds. If the visitor is a South African national, EVIM can positively identify him/her and record the fingerprint in about the same time it takes to fill in details on a piece of paper. The Johannesburg telephone directory lists nobody with the surname Mouse. But even if there is a South African called Michael Mouse, he will have an ID number that can be verified and unlike his cartoon counterpart, he will have a fingerprint.
Developed over the past two years by Marius Coetzee and his team at WebSystems, EVIM not only verifies the identity of visitors, it also holds their information securely and allows for secure retrieval in a variety of formats. The type of visitor data captured at an entry point can also be configured to meet a variety of needs. For example, a warehouse may want to capture additional data such as the weight of a truck and POD or POC information. The entry-level version of EVIM allows four fields of data, but more advanced versions can handle up to 15.
EVIM providies a means to identify visitors. By doing so it creates a highly visible and effective deterrent.
