Biometric solution for residential security

May 2007 Access Control & Identity Management

Sagem's OMA300 fingerprint scanner is well established in the residential market as a fingerprint technology for secure access into residential estates, small office parks and townhouse complexes.

Based on Sagem's 25 years of R&D and experience in managing over two billion fingerprints worldwide, the OMA300's effectiveness is attributable to Sagem's world leading fingerprint algorithms.

The pattern of one's fingerprint is made up of ridges and valleys, and minutia points occur where ridges split or end. On average, a fingerprint has 85 minutia points, creating a unique pattern or template that distinguishes one fingerprint from all others. Dirty and damaged fingerprints may cause fingerprint technologies to register false minutia points, and as a result do not function in harsh operating environments. Sagem's algorithms detect and reject these false minutiae, enabling the OMA300 to accurately identify even the most badly damaged and dirty fingerprints.

In addition, Sagem scanners have on average a 75% larger surface area to ensure that the maximum number of available minutia points is captured. The OMA300 thus allows for fast and accurate identification, preventing unauthorised access and inaccurate T&A records.

Sagem's OMA300 eliminates the dependencies on unreliable access cards, keys, remotes and PINS which can be lost, stolen or forgotten through its ability to provide accurate fingerprint identification. With identification of up to 48 000 persons in two seconds or less, the OMA300 also prevents delays and bottlenecks at entrances with high visitor volumes.

The OMA300's ruggedised, water- and shock-resistant and dustproof features make it ideal for residential applications, where outdoor readers are required to secure entrance into the property. A fully IP65 rated fingerprint reader, the OMA 300 has been proven to work in even the harshest of outdoor conditions.
