QDD-Lavie Timetech partnership takes off

February 2001 Access Control & Identity Management

The partnership between Q Data DynamiQue (QDD), PQ Africa's total HR solution provider, and Lavie Timetech is starting to pay dividends. This is the view of Linda Glieman, Q Data DynamiQue's Product Manager when referring to the deal which saw the local launch of Lavie's full-featured time and attendance system, Timekeeper-PC in September last year.

Roll-out of the product has commenced at a number of sites in southern Africa. These include Duferco Steel Processing & SA Fine Worsteds in the Cape; Revertex SA and Tongaat Hulett Sugar-Amatikulu Mill in KwaZulu Natal; Ipak and Rand Aid Association in Gauteng; Presitex Enterprises in Lesotho and BCL Ltd in Botswana. At Ipak, a Gauteng-based packaging company, the time taken to process wages has been reduced from three days to 3-4 hours. The company upgraded from QDD's previous time and attendance system to the Timekeeper-PC solution. The implementation went live one week before schedule.

Keith Elwis, IT Manager at Ipak, says the program records time and attendance, leave and anything else to do with employee remuneration. The system fully integrates with the access control system, thereby also controlling access onto the premises.

Elwis explains that with the previous system, daily analyses had to be done with regard to the company's 200 employees in four divisions. Timekeeper-PC has allowed this to be consolidated into one division so that a single person can handle all time and attendance calculations. Another benefit, he explains is: "If there is an error with regard to one person's clocking, the system allows for changes to be made to just that person's attendance records and then updates everything, without the operator having to redo any process."

Timekeeper-PC is fully integrated with the Impro access control system, which QDD has distributed for the past eight years. Its open-ended design permits it to interface with a variety of other data collection terminals from other vendors.

Included in the product offering is TimeCosting-PC, which is designed to collect, analyse and monitor labour distribution and job allocation information; and department allocation, which supports the monitoring and control of hours worked per department. Other features include a hotel staffing costing module, a canteen management system and a benefit accrual system for monitoring and managing leave.
