High-tech HeiTel

March 2007 Surveillance

Those industry participants born in the 1960s and 1970s will remember when CCTV was so basic it did not incorporate recording capabilities let alone zoom, pan and tilt functionality; multiple simultaneous connections; and diagnostic software.

Yet, for those who are children of the 'Internet era', these capabilities are 'standard' and CCTV solutions that do not offer high-tech communication platforms such as web serving, for example, as an option do not make it to the short-list.

Fortunately, there are a few product ranges that offer high-tech, one of which is the HeiTel offering distributed exclusively in South Africa by Norbain.

According to Norbain's MJ Oosthuizen, one of the most impressive new product additions to HeiTel's range is the high-speed version of the CamDisc SVR, now with recording speeds of 100 images per second over either 10 or 4 channels.

Oosthuizen says much of the functionality from the tried and tested CamDisc SVR range was enhanced to facilitate alarm verification.

Here, enhancements include individual channel adjustable image resolution of up to 720 x 288 pixels, triplex capabilities and adaptive multitrack management for scheduled, permanent, motion and/or contact-triggered recording. This last feature ensures optimal use of hard disk capacity and an effective analysis of the video archive.

Furthermore, all HeiTel devices now have network, data transmission and remote control camera interfaces and allow for problem-free system integration. In addition, the range integrates to control centre operations with great ease, and the integrated Multi Unicast Server supports multiple simultaneous IP and dial-up connections.

The range can accommodate an integrated web server that permits access to live images on standard PCs; smartphones; PDA web browsers.

"Also, with the aid of the CamControl software, up to 100 HeiTel image transmitters can be grouped virtually, meaning that the number of Heitel devices on site will be displayed logically as one transmitter on the remote site," says Oosthuizen.

The optional audio card not only permits full-duplex voice communication by means of bidirectional audio transmission, but audio data recording on all devices with an integrated hard disk. And by combining a CamDisc SVR device with a POS/ATM adaptor, POS and ATM data from individual cameras can be recorded at the same time as a video sequence. Full alpha-numerical data mining is possible both locally and remotely.
