Elvey donates to AIDS orphans

October 2006 News & Events

In response to South Africa's recent record temperature lows, Elvey Security Technologies has donated 600 blankets to the Alexandra Children's Haven in the wake of its recent 'Golf for Good' day.

The company's annual golf day saw 120 participants brave icy temperatures at the Glendower Golf Course in Bedfordview to raise funds for the project, says CEO Jack Edery. "This year has been one of the coldest winters that South Africa has experienced. While we are warm in the comfort of our homes, there are many children out there who do not even have beds to sleep in at night. As temperatures plummeted to below zero, we decided to redirect the focus of our golf day in order to ensure that the homeless children, many of whom are AIDS orphans, could at least sleep warmly."

He adds, "The event was a great success, with Elvey customers and suppliers digging deep into their pockets, not only in support of the golf day but also during the charity raffle in the true spirit of giving. Everyone had fun, and it was a wonderful opportunity for our clients to network among each other, but at the end of the day, the main focus was on doing something for those less fortunate than us."
