Digitisation and the convergence of technology is a key driving factor within the gaming industry as it opens the door to a new level of functionality in physical security and surveillance, offering better quality, scalability, speed, efficiency, capacity and remote access than allowed for by traditional analog technology. i to i technologies is setting the digital standard in the South African gaming industry. The growth of digital security solutions as a result of the convergence of the traditional electronic security market with the information and communications technology (ICT) industries is a global phenomenon that is making a dramatic impact globally and specifically within the South African gaming sector.

Yagan Nair, i to i technologies' regional manager, notes the company has been active within the industry for about four years and was the first company to implement a digital gaming solution, approved by the regulatory authority. Once this standard had been established, more and more casinos are following suit.

"In all, i to i technologies has an installed base of more than 10 000 cameras attached to a digital recording device, of which a large portion is within the gaming industry, and this number is growing all the time," says Nair. "Our customers appreciate that i to i technologies is the first company in South Africa with a national licence and that our staff are very aware of all the rules and regulations governing the security aspect of the gaming industry. Quality and efficiency is our trademark."

Whether it is recording the activities on the casino floor, monitoring who has access to restricted areas or even keeping an eye on the car park, i to i technologies has invested significantly in the necessary integration skills that are required to effectively integrate and deliver across disparate technologies and vendor solutions.

"Moving to the digital age carries many benefits for the gaming industry," Nair continues. "The primary benefit is the efficiency and reliability associated with video data processing, followed by improved quality and an easier user interface presented to staff."

"Analog systems are no longer relevant," explains Richard Groenewald, i to i technologies' sales and marketing executive. "Already we have seen about 20% of the gaming companies in South Africa changing to digital and this number continues to grow. The benefits are just too compelling."

Another value-add i to i technologies offers its customers is that it has all the skills and knowledge to efficiently service the gaming industry in-house. It does not make use of outsourced services to complement its own, ensuring that it exercises complete control over every aspect of an implementation. This ensures the job is done properly in accordance with the stringent regulations that have been put in place regarding surveillance.
