Cellphones to open and close gates

February 2006 Access Control & Identity Management

Developed by Remote Control Technologies, the GGC Ver.2.0.3 is a new, cost-effective GSM gate controller that allows users to open and close gates using their cellphones, working as a deterrent against crime by preventing unauthorised entry into the premises, bypassing the need for a remote controller.

Developed for use in townhouses, apartments and individual residences and any application that requires remote, secure access, GGC offers the user a choice of dialling the GGC direct to open or close a gate, or sending a 'please call me' SMS to activate the service. There is no cost to the cellphone user calling the GGC.

Easy to install and maintain, GGC is ideal for use in townhouse complexes as there is a huge saving in terms of money spent on many costly remotes that tend to get lost or damaged frequently and the low battery life that requires regular replacement. Obviating the need of carrying a bulky remote, the GGC fits in with modern-day lifestyle habits of cellphone usage and, in addition, can be activated from a normal Telkom line provided the number has been registered with the GGC. For added convenience, the GGC can be activated from any location to permit visitors, maintenance personnel, etc, access to the premises.

The GGC boasts a history that logs the last 50 or more users that accessed the unit/opened the gate. The history saves the unit number, cell number, date and time that entry was gained. This information can be retrieved by the administrator at any time via a laptop running the customised GGC software or via SMS. Using a computer or a cellphone to configure the innovatively designed GGC Ver1.0 software, the simple addition of registering the cell number to the GGC permits a valid user entry into or exit from the premises. The administrator can either add or erase a cellphone number via the PC software or by SMS, which is acknowledged by a command execution SMS.
