Rainbow in the mall

December 2005 Surveillance

High resolution varifical dome cameras from Rainbow CCTV have been installed at a major retail complex in Ireland.

Located on the outskirts of Dublin, the Dundrum shopping and entertainment centre is claimed by developers, Crossridge Investment, to be the largest and best example of a mixed shopping and leisure destination in Europe. Stores include House of Fraser, Marks and Spencer, Tesco and Boots.

The £342m main structure covers 850 000 sq ft and received 75 000 visitors on its opening day in March this year. Work is now being completed on satellite buildings including a multiplex cinema, apartment blocks and a community theatre. The Rainbow internal domes along with high impact external models have been installed in these areas by Dublin-based company, Executive Security.

Executive Security has been operating for 25 years and specialises in CCTV, access control and intruder systems, working predominantly in the commercial and retail sectors. The installer has used CAT 5 wiring with an NVT transmission system and is employing Columbus DVRs from Norbain. The lead construction company has been John Sisk & Son working with Burke-Kennedy Doyle Architects.

The Rainbow high-resolution domes are 1/3" colour models with a Sony Super HAD CCD. They provide 470-line images and operate to minimum illumination of 0,4 lux. The vari-focal lens is 3,3-12 mm F1.5 and operation can be 12 V d.c. or 24 V a.c. The domes have a DC-type auto iris and operate with a signal to noise ratio of more than 48 dB and include backlight compensation.

A third phase at the Dundrum complex will see the addition of more retail units, a 78-bedroom four-star hotel and 150 00 sq ft of office accommodation.

Rainbow CCTV products are available locally through ADI International.
