Crown Gold recovers losses

November 2005 Access Control & Identity Management

Project scope

The main objective of the project was to provide a foolproof access control system that would enable the company to control the movement of ±800 employees and visitors in and out of the plant, both accurately and efficiently with the minimum of inconvenience to the users of the system.

* 2 x MA200 Sagem fingerprint readers.

* 1 x MSO300 Sagem take on reader.

* 1 x MEMS Software package.

* 1 x Verification dongle.

* 1 x BioTime T&A Software package.

The history

Crown Gold Recovery is a gold recovery plant and as such it required an extremely high level of secure access control.

Being a high security environment, the company needs maximum control over the employees and visitors that go in and out of the plant every day.

The previous system was prone to excessive vandalism, which caused security breaches and cost the company a small fortune in lost productivity due to a lack of accurate control over man-hours worked.

The new system was proposed and strategically planned to overcome some of the main control problems being experienced with the old system.

The solution

The plant decided to go the biometric security route and chose Sagem fingerprint readers as recommended by FIT. This would result in increased reliability and efficiency to give the required control.

The goal

The company aimed to make the transition with a minimum of disruption or down-time and without compromising security in any way.

The benefits

Better control over the movement of people in the plant, overall improvement in security and productivity with the resultant cost savings.

Implementation

FIT conducted extensive in-house research and recommended Sagem's MorphoAccess reader system together with its BioTime T&A software package. Progress was measured against a predetermined activity schedule and controlled via a critical path analysis program prepared by FIT.
