Korean contract for Dex

September 2005 News & Events

Dex Security Solutions has signed a contract with the Korean technology company Techsphere.

The local designer and manufacturer of biometric security systems for access control and time and attendance records has acquired the sole right to import the Techsphere VP-II security system. In terms of the contract, Dex will handle the distribution of the super advanced infrared vein structure biometric scanners in South Africa and the entire sub-Saharan continent.

The vein pattern scanner, DexID VP-II, is being used successfully in Japan, Malaysia, the USA and Europe.

Fingerprint and palm scanners are already in general use - the South African mining houses in particular have been using palm scanners for many years. Whereas other systems read eg, fingerprints and the palm of the hand, the DexID VP-II system reads the pattern of the veins on the back of the hand. Like fingerprints, no two persons' vein patterns are the same. The DexID VP-II verifies the identity of a person in less than one second.

The system was developed by Korean security specialist, Dr Alex Choi. He was challenged to design a system that is affected less by damaged finger and palm prints, while being more hygienic at the same time. Dr Choi says the latest technology makes it possible to find solutions to existing problems on a continuous basis.
