Improved safety, productivity at Form-Scaff

August 2005 Surveillance

High technology surveillance is not only reducing stock losses but improving safety and enhancing productivity at Form-Scaff's Kya Sands factory.

Form-Scaff was looking to improve safety, reduce stock losses of high value products as well as improve productivity in its refurbishing and material handling operations. The size and topography of its 20 000 m2 facility made this difficult.

The solution, designed, installed and maintained by Intervid comprises a 16-camera system - 14 fixed and two domes - which is linked to a central control room manned by a specially trained operator from ML Asset Management.

Form-Scaff, Kya Sands branch manager, Reg Engelbrecht, says the decision to implement the surveillance solution was based on the interests of safety and productivity, as well as controlling losses.

"Intervid's hardware, installation and support has been excellent and the quality of the monitoring has been the critical success factor for the project. The ML operator is specially trained to be able to see trends and pick up safety breaches, for example.

"This is more than a security solution, it is also a proactive management tool for greater productivity and improved health and safety. The combined solution of technology and appropriate manpower has more than paid for itself," says Engelbrecht.

"In choosing Intervid for the solution, our criteria were cost and value for money. While not the cheapest, Intervid met our criteria from quality of installation, good housekeeping and a strong track record."

As a result of the success of the installation, other Form-Scaff sites and offices are considering similar solutions.
